To be able to create and allocate a GCN you must :
- be a member of GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg (= have a company prefix)
- publish products via My Product Manager
- and have a My Coupon Manager account.
I no longer have access to the GCN Barcode Generator tool! How can I create a barcode for my coupon?
The GCN Barcode Generator was decommissioned at the end of 2023 and is no longer available.
Since July 2024, it's possible to generate GS1 Databar Expanded in My Coupon Manager
Many free applications can be easily found on the web using search engines with the following criteria: ‘GS1 Databar Expanded Generator Free’.
Avoid delays at the checkout due to an illegible coupon by having your barcodes checked free of charge before distributing them on the market.
As a member of GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg, take advantage of our free barcode verification service
This service checks the scannability of your codes.
A personalised coupon is sent to a specific customer, allowing it to be linked to an individual and ensuring its usage can be tracked.
The coupon includes the standard 13 digits of a GCN, plus an additional number (up to 12 digits) to make it unique.
Although the primary functions of the two coupon creation platforms are similar, all coupon data is synchronised in the GS1 environment. Coupons, whose unique identifier is generated by the GS1 system, share all information with other couponing players connected via the GS1 network.
This is why a fee has been charged since 01/01/2024, enabling GS1 to continue to develop the platform and network to meet the need to digitalise processes.
Coupon data is currently shared via XML files exchanged using SFTP.
There is no exchange via API for the moment.

To issue a coupon in Belgium and redeem it, you need to go through an approved organisation. HighCo Data is the only clearing house for the Belgian-Luxembourg market.
Yes, it is mandatory to mention the validity date for the consumer.
However, it is not mandatory to indicate the additional period the shop has to return the coupon to the clearing centre; this information must not appear on the ‘paper’ coupon.
No, an S4 type coupon is limited to one consumer unit (= 1 GTIN).
If the GTIN refers to a package of two cans or bottles, the consumer will receive several ‘products’, but the coupon refers to one unit (= 1 GTIN) of this specific consumer package.
Only the following GTINs will be shown on the HighCo Data Extranet and can be linked:
- GTINs defined as consumer units;
- active GTINs (without an end of availability date in the past);
- GTINs with a valid status in My Product Manager;
- GTINs that are published publicly or to HighCo Data's GLN.
HighCo Data cannot see or access products that do not fulfil these criteria. It is therefore crucial to keep your data complete and up to date.
To check this, go to My Product Manager and view the ‘My Products’ and ‘My Publications’ screens.
A report is also available to check warnings and alert messages linked to a specific GTIN or to all your GTINs.
For more information, please refer to the section ‘How to check the status of my GTINs in My Product Manager’.
The process for sharing your data with data takers is described here.
The product sheets of your suppliers can be downloaded in several ways:
- directly from My Product Manager;
- via API;
- or via sftp server (XML format).
Please refer to the available guidelines for more info.
