What is the difference between an eCoupon and a mobile coupon?

Today, most coupons are still distributed in paper format. However, the use of digital coupons is on the rise, typically associated with specific retailers and their mobile applications.

eCoupon

An eCoupon is essentially a traditional paper coupon published via digital channels. It is:

  • Serialised and distributed digitally (via e.g. email, website, WhatsApp, etc.).
  • Personalised and issued to a specific consumer.
  • Printed on paper by the customer, allowing it to be scanned at the checkout.

Mobile coupon

A mobile coupon might seem similar to an eCoupon but offers key differences. It is:

  • A 100% digital coupon that does not require to be printed anymore.
  • Manageable via mobile devices.
  • Uniquely serialised.
  • Use at the checkout combined with the validation of a ‘burn system’ guarantees unique use.
